Spring Break Pitfalls!

Well, it hasn't quite turned out to be the partying spring break like the girls and I imagined. We had plans to go to St. Augustine on Monday and to a friend's beach house at Ponce Inlet for thurs. night.....to no avail. Poor Karen broke out with the most severe case of hives over the weekend and was not in any condition for a day trip, so we just played at Hope's and stayed out of the public eye! It was probably a good thing that we didn't travel b/c Audrey wasn't feeling well and was on her 3rd day of a low grade fever and "stomach issues". Tuesday was a little chilly, so we stayed in and dyed Easter Eggs. What fun.....and what a mess!! Against my better judgement on Wednesday, we kept plans to go to the zoo with Ella's good friend Madeleine and her sisters. It was fun, but I dragged poor Audrey along, who was still not feeling well. Then it was a rush to gymnastics and a rush to the pediatrician because it was all going down hill. It turned out that Audrey had gastritis, conjunctivitis, and acute respiratory distress. Her predictable crazy cough set in and when the dr. listened, he said she was wheezing terribly. We were with a allergist and pulmonologist last month to discuss her coughing condition and are still trying to confirm a diagnosis......maybe asthma? Last night and the night before, she woke up in such coughing fits that she was gagging and gasping. It was the first time that I actually realized the severity of the situation and was almost ready to head to the ER. It's so frustrating and baffling because the normal asthma treatments do not offer much relief. I'm hoping to head downtown on Monday to have the specialist evaluate her again. I just feel so bad for her b/c she's been sick so often for so long.
Needless to say, Thursday was a day of rest at home. Despite being lethargic Audrey was excited about the eggs we dyed, so we had a few early, impromptu egg hunts.....which led to colorful egg salad for dinner!!! On Friday night, our next door neighbors hosted a party for Seven Mile Drive to "introduce" us and another couple who recently moved here. It was great to meet the new faces.
So, that wrapped up Spring break. I think we'll continue to lay low tomorrow, maybe run a few errands and get ready for the bunny!
